Bali Coast 2 Coast is by and large a hiking adventure. However, we realize many folks will want to know more about the places they visit and the people they encounter along the way.
Our casual discussions while on the trail will present opportunities to learn about Balinese culture, religion and the natural history and ecology of Bali. This all depends on who happens to be on the trails that day, what ceremonies are taking place and what flora and fauna we come across during our trek.
Almost every day we will have opportunities for genuine interactions with locals in their daily lives. This might include chatting with rice farmers about their harvest, visiting art villages and learning about their craft, discovering the importance of the UNESCO World Heritage Subak irrigation system that is unique to Bali or sampling a local made palm alcohol at a trailside distillery!
Our route will also take us through various landscapes and ecosystems including forested mountains, terraced hillsides, rice fields, beaches and pastoral farm lands. We’re guaranteed to see a variety of flora and can ask locals about their medicinal and food uses. If we’re lucky we might also stumble across a variety of birds, insects, reptiles and mammals.
Regardless of what we see it will be an adventure enhanced by the world class scenery we pass through.
Both Jeff and Kenny are proficient in Bahasa Indonesia and will gladly help you communicate with locals to discover and learn more.
Jeff is very knowledgeable about the local culture and economy while Kenny has been teaching science and ecology in South East Asia for more than a decade so whatever we come across we’ll be happy to share our knowledge and experience.
